Bringing the Outdoors “In”: How nature-based, outdoor play can inspire our work with young children and within ourselves

Bowdoin College Children's Center Fall Workshop Series

Held over a series of four sessions beginning September 24, 2025:
Creating outdoor, nature-based learning opportunities for all.
Goal: Consider successes and barriers and look towards next steps when offering nature-based learning to children of all abilities and backgrounds.

Objectives: We will discuss many ways of offering outdoor, nature-based opportunities based on participants' experiences. This conversation will focus on educating families in addition to sharing resources and perspectives. We will brainstorm how to work within our different environments, how to source materials, and address staffing realities and ratios. There will be discussion on how to bring in families and the community and what kinds of information we can offer to embrace outdoor, nature-based education with curiosity and support. We will address how to meet families where they are at, especially in terms of acquiring necessary outdoor gear and offering a balance of family education and resources.
